Carrie Glenney I’m absolutely fascinated by the process of evolution and am interested in exploring evolutionary theories using microbes as a model system. I’m currently exploring a variety of pathways within this field, including cell cooperation and the selective pressures that generate metabolic generalists/specialists.

Beth Halsne I am a senior earning my degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics, and I plan on attending medical school following my graduation from UW. I am interested in the evolution of virulence in a host-pathogen system exposed to different migration patterns.

Mayme Marshall Hi! I am an honors student studying Molecular, Cellular, Developmental Biology with a minor in Bioethics and Humanities. After I graduate this spring (June 2010), I plan on applying to medical school. I hope to one day work as a pediatric oncologist. I am currently collaborating on a project with Carrie Glenney regarding the evolution of self-destructive altruism. Feel free to email me if you have any questions. GO HUSKIES!

Brandon Rogers I am in my third year at the University of Washington and I will be graduating in Spring 2010. I recently applied to the Neurobiology major and I am waiting to hear back. I will also minor in Chemistry and I plan to start medical school in fall of 2010. My main role in the lab is lab maintainance.

Alyssa Sheih I am studying Bioengineering at the University of Washington. My previous research involved modeling the coevolution of host sociality and pathogen virulence in contact networks. Currently, I am working on a project that investigates how properties of spherical particles influence the efficiency of phagocytosis by different cell types. After graduation, I plan on pursuing a Ph.D. in Bioengineering.

Spenser Smith I am a senior studying Biology and Biochemistry interested in the evolution of evolvability, ecological genetics, and the mechanisms of evolution in enabling speciation. I am doing research with T4, a bacteriophage that adsorbs into E. coli, looking into how it toggles levels of adaptability in certain environments. I also enjoy theology, running, playing the piano, guitar, and drums, analyzing culture, and good friends.
